Dec. 2nd, 2014 09:52 amThere are still plenty of days available for anyone who wants to ask me anything. So just head on over here, choose a date and drill my brain.
Okay, for

Describe your greatest moment of fannish excitement. :-)
Oh, wow, so many to choose from but these are the ones that immediately sprang to mind.
The first hasn't even happened yet. Sunday, November 8, 2015. Denver, Colorado. Seeing Jared come on stage for the morning J2 gold panel and probably still not believing that he's there in person and I'm in the same country, the same city, the same freekin' room as he is. And, yeah, Jensen will be there too and that will be amazing but I'm a Jared girl and a Sam!Girl and so there will only be 1 person on that stage. And I don't think I'll be able to breathe or blink for the whole 30 mins. And that won't even be the end because there's the main J2 panel that afternoon and then photo ops with Jared and Jensen and J2 together and then autos where hopefully I will be able to say something a lot more coherent to Jared than just 'Ummmmmmm'
And then I get to do it all over again at the next con the following weekend in LA and I bet I still won't be any less starstruck and excited and giddy. If anything I will probably more of all these things.
And icing on the cake, I get to share this with hundreds of other passionate members of the amazing SPN family and 1 in particular, who will be sitting right beside me and who is also a fellow Sam&Jared girl so there will be much squeezing and hugging and telling each other that it's all real.
For something that has already happened, I can't split two of them. Both very, very different and yet both so amazing experiences that I will never forget.
A little background first. I'm in my mid-40's and we didn't have conventions when I was growing up in Australia. The first one in my hometown was only in 2007, so I never, ever had any expectation of ever meeting any of the actors I grew up watching on tv. In 2004, I discovered Farscape and fell hard, binge watching whole seasons in just a matter of days. Through the wonderful Scaper fandom, I heard of the Farscape con that was held in LA every November. I also heard that the 2 leads, Ben Browder and Claudia Black) were very unlikely to ever do any cons outside of the US and that if I ever wanted to meet Ben in person, I'd have to travel to do so. So I did. In Nov 2008, I flew all the way to LA with a friend, spent ten glorious days there and went to the con. It was the most amazing experience, surrounded by hundreds of equally dedicated and obsessed Scapers and of course getting to meet all the actors, having photos and getting autographs and hanging out in the bar til the very early hours of the morning.
Meeting Ben was everything I'd ever dreamed of and so much more. He was brilliant in his panel and then when it was time for photos, I put out my hand to shake his and he pulled me into this massive bear-hug. Even though I have the goofiest look on my face, part shock, part surprise, (the scapers call it being Bendazzled) it's still one of my favourite photo ops.
For the other one, in 2009 I had to travel only about 20kms to meet my very first TV idol and crush, Dirk Benedict (Starbuck in the original BSG). He was beyond amazing and so very much how I remembered him as Starbuck. I fell in love with him all over again. Richard Hatch (Apollo) and Herb Jefferson (Boomer) was also there so it was like reliving my childhood all over again.
I've also met Richard Dean Anderson (twice), Michael Shanks (a complete sweetie-pie), Scott Bakula and John Barrowman and heaps of others.

Date: 2014-12-02 07:06 am (UTC)Yes, this exactly!!!! I'm very much an introvert with only few very close friends (who I met when searching for Farscape eps) but I feel like I really come out of my shell at cons where I'm surrounded by hundreds and thousands of other fans who are even more fannishly obsessed than I am. I have absolutely no trouble turning to the person in front or behind me in the (sometimes,) hour long photo and auto queues and starting a full on conversation and pulling out my thick binder with all my photo ops and showing it to complete strangers.
I love walking through the crowded con areas and having people stop and say how cool my fandom shirt it and where I got it and just starting to talk about SPN or Dr Who or Stargate without feeling the least bit awkward.
And then there's seeing the same fans at different cons through the years and being able to slip back into easy conversation as if months haven't passed in between.
So yeah, cons are the best type of family reunions and I love them and would go to so many more if I could afford to do so, even if none of my favourite actors was attending. I just love the atmosphere and the love for everyone regardless of age, gender, size or fandom.
