Love how Sam is so insistent on killing Crowley. Dean seems a lot less so which has me worried for him.

The Antiquities lady flirting with and then hitting on Dean. Dean being clueless for most of it. And his turn to look uncomfortable when he finally got a clue. Her making sure Dean takes her card, not Sam.
Loved Magnus. Awesome idea of someone collecting creatures for a Supernatural zoo. Has good taste to want to add Sam and Dean to his collection. But describing Sam as 'ordinary'???? Oh boy, that is so far off the mark. So glad he changed his tune later and saw how valuable Sam is.

Yes, Dean. "Be my companion" is definitely creepy and then the spell to take Dean's will away was even creepier. And the fact that it wasn't instantaneous but something that would have to be repeated a few times with Dean losing more of his thoughts and free-will each time. Kinda like a very slow and gradual possession.
Sam" We are not on the same anything." LOL and " which means you are useless, even more so than usual." Oh, Sammy how much I love you right now. Never change, baby.
"Give me your hand" Was wondering why Dean (and later Sam) was chained up by the upper arms and their hands left free. Makes sense now.
Great to see some monsters from the past. First vampires, then shapeshifter.
Dean freaking out when Sam is getting hurt is awesome to see.
My favourite part of the whole ep: Sam pleading with Dean to drop the blade.
Love that Sam was carrying the 1st blade when they get outside. Another way of protecting his brother.

And once again, Crowley screws the boys over. I'll bet his plan was always to get the blade and use it to control Dean.


Can someone, anyone tell me why I'm still seeing comments on LJ, Twitter and Facebook that Sam doesn't care about Dean, that he's not concerned about the Mark of Cain and it's effects??? I just don't get it. His anguish is so obvious to me and a lot of other Sam fans. It's been shown over and over these last few eps.
Dean gets himself drugged, Sam races to find him.
Dean is freaked out by something in the Bunker, calls out "Sammy" and Sam comes running.
Dean is about to get his throat cut and Sam's is horrified at the thought of losing him.
The panic on Sam's face and his whole body and in his voice when he tells Crowley: "He's got Dean." just about broke my heart.
Sam's "Take me to my brother" hurt so much.
His desperate pleading, almost begging, Dean to drop the blade DID break my heart.

And then there's the flack he's getting for being "mean" to Crowley and wanting to kill him. Poor guy can't get a break. He was (and still is getting) bashed so much for hooking up with Ruby in season 4 and now it's because he won't be BFF with Crowley.

I haven't seen this ep yet but this makes me want to SO much! As for your question, I wish I knew the answer. Sam bashing has pretty much been going on from season one and peaked in season 4 and no matter what he has done to redeem himself for his mistakes, it's never enough for some fans. Yet if Dean makes a mistake, he's forgiven almost instantly. For some reason many of Jensen Ackles' fans seem to think it means they have to hate Jared's character and sometimes even the actor himself. It doesn't make any sense to me. I'm a Sam girl but that doesn't mean I hate Dean and that seems to be the case with most Sam fans. The only thing I can think of is that the show is told through Dean's POV and although we always see what's happening to Sam we very rarely get to see what he's thinking or how things are affecting him like we do with Dean. Also, Dean's character is very black and white whereas Sam is many different shades of grey which makes it easy to know when Dean is hurting, sad, angry etc but not so clear with Sam. I could name so many instances where Sam has shown just as much love for Dean as Dean has for Sam but they often aren't the big sweeping gestures of sacrifice that are made by Dean or when he has tried to make them he's been unsuccessful - like when he tried to trade his soul for Dean's when Dean was in hell. I don't think it will ever be any different because of the way the writers have set up the show - it's unlikely that they will flip it so that the show is seen from Sam's POV. I say let the haters hate, there are a lot of us Sam fans out there who will always love the character. I try to ignore a lot of what's out there and focus on what I love about the show and the characters, I think so many people are missing out on the full enjoyment on the show by focusing so much ill feeling toward one of the leading characters.

Hey! I don't get the Crowley thing - I think it's got something to do with everyone loving Mark Shepard so much (I love him too) and just seeing that and forgetting that he killed Sarah Blake and Tommy and countless other people, tortured Kevin and his mom, tried to kill Jody Mills. I think he's totally right for wanting him dead...even though I love the evil little shit to death...because Crowley is still a demon and he's always out for himself. He screws them over every chance he gets...

The Sam thing is more complicated I think. I've been mad at him myself a lot lately, and I think the whole 'we're not brothers' thing has just really stuck with people. BUT...if you look on tumblr everyone is saying how much they're loving seeing Sam so concerned about Dean, like you've just said, and I think most people get he was just lashing out because Dean hurt him. I don't think anyone actually thinks Sam doesn't care anymore...I hope not anyway...

I must confess to have been feeling a little anti-Sam lately, but it's more an anti-writer thing, because no matter how pissed Sam was with Dean (and rightly so) I really don't think he would have been as hurtful and cold towards Dean as he has been - telling him they could work together but not as brothers for example. He could clearly see how hurt and lost Dean was and did nothing to help him. BUT this episode just put them right back on track! As you said, so much to love, especially Sam talking Dean into dropping the blade, fantastic acting from both J's there. I finally feel like they are brothers again and that whatever happens to Dean from having the Mark Of Cain, Sam will be right there with him, loving him & supporting him. Yay!
I also felt that the whole Sam not looking for Dean when he was in purgatory was off, again the writers fault, and perhaps a lot of Dean-ites still feel annoyed with Sam about that.

Finally I can see why Sam wants to kill Crowley but as evil, double-crossing and self-serving as he is, I don't want him to die! Just little nuggets like 'Not Moose' make him worth keeping around!

You gotta know that Sam can do nothing right by some. No matter what! No matter how much hurt he's suffered by his brother's hand - he cannot be angry with him. No matter how much hurt Crowley has caused them - he can't be mad, or snarky with him (or actually REMEMBER what he did to Sarah).

I can't even.

In fact I don't any more. I'm happy to back the underdog and I am damn thankful that they made Sam snarky with Crowley rather than accepting him. At least he as some scruples.
