Date: 2013-09-16 10:53 am (UTC)Hmmmmmm, reasons for season 4 being my favourite are much harder to narrow down but you are spot-on about them being Sam related. Although I had known of the show for years, I only started watching during season 4 (Heaven and Hell was my first ep, loved it so much I went out and bought the first 3 seasons on DVD the very next day.)
Sam got a great season-long arc, a secondary character to interact with and confide in and to me at least, seemed a lot more confident and in control, no longer the little brother always in need of being protected by Dean. Sure he made lots of mistakes but his heart was in the right place and he did what he did with only the very best of intentions. He tried to reach out to Dean more than once and get his help but was always knocked down, sometimes literally like in Metamorphosis.
Unlike most other seasons, there's not an ep that I don't love and would skip on a re-watch and the run of eps starting at On The Head Of A Pin and ending with Lucifer Rising is the best set of eps to end any season. I find myself marathoning them, never able to stop after just 1 or 2.

Date: 2013-09-17 08:07 am (UTC)That's awesome that it was your first season! It was very well done. For me, it was just an issue of expectations. I was so irrationally excited about the possibilities after the Season 3 finale, and had clearly spent way too much time thinking about what I wanted to see, none of which we did see, which left me mourning the loss of imaginary things.
Thank you so much for sharing your Sam POV! For some reason, I just have a really hard time with Sam in Season 4. It's not as if I don't like him there or that Jared wasn't amazing, I just can't wrap my head around Sam's character perspective in that season's arc so I love hearing the Sam!girl perspective on it. Sooner or later, I'm finally going to get it ;)
That's super cool that it's your marathon season and On The Head Of A Pin I do indeed love dearly!
