Bit of a downer after the last few which I really liked. I did enjoy it, I guess but there was so much that I didn't enjoy at the same time. Might find some more positives in a rewatch or two and after reading some reactions on my f*list but right now, it's pretty much a "was ok, but could have been so so much better" ep for me.

Not so happy thoughts lie beyond )

After live tweeting the west coast feed from Jared's trailer, along with Misha and Rob Benedict, the boys head over to Facebook and livestream the last act!!!

No ep spoilers in either vid, just awesome boys being even more awesome!!! Jensen totally channels Dean when he can't work out how to turn off livestreaming. LOL

If these over-actors hurry up, then I'm gonna watch Supernatural with y'all tonight!!! The episode is fantastic :)(Sorry Rob Benedict, I really meant to only call Misha Collins an over-actor...)

This was truly one of the most difficult episodes to film. SO intense. Luckily, I was surrounded by great actors and in the hands of a phenomenal director, Nina Lopez-Corrado. #supernatural #RedMeat

Misha posted this on his FB this morning.

Dear Jared Padalecki,

I have a quick question for you, but in order to ask it, i need to give you a little background on an event that is unfolding at the moment... Here's the background: Right now (this morning) at The American Culture Association's academic conference in Seattle, there is a panel being conducted called "Fandom As Protest Space" where Tanya Cook is presenting her paper titled:

Always Keep (Nerd)Fighting: Durkheim’s Collective Effervescence and Fandoms as Reformative Social Movements

And, this is the abstract on the paper:
"In his pioneering sociological work on how religion is fundamentally a social experience, Emile Durkheim theorized that individuals experience collective emotional highs when worshiping together. This “collective effervescence” creates a heightened, shared experience that helps to differentiate between the sacred (religious rituals) and profane (mundane, everyday reality). Thus, Durkheim argued, when individuals join together in religious worship they are not actually worshiping a higher power but are worshiping themselves as a collective or social group. In this paper, I apply Durkheim’s concepts of collective effervescence and other sociological theories to science fiction and fantasy fandoms. Through case studies of the Supernatural and Nerdfighter (John and Hank Green) fan communities, I argue that the collective effervescence fans experience through consumption of the show/media has resulted in a bridge to social movement mobilization for some fans. Led by celebrities in the fandoms, fan participation in the Always Keep Fighting Campaign, world-wide scavenger hunt, GISHWHES (or Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen), and Nerdfighteria meetups represent new alternative and potentially even reformative social movements (Aberle, 1966). Just as religious worshipers enact their values through social justice ministries or service work, some fan communities have effectively leveraged the collective effervescence fans experience after consuming the show and interacting on social media into real and measurable impacts in the world."

Now, Jared, I'm no academic (although i too have written papers on Durkheim's "collective effervescence"), but from the passage above, it sounds like we are at the helm of "social movement mobilizations" which tap into some of the same social fabric that enshrouds "religious worship." Add to this the fact that Supernatural is often referred to as a "cult show" or a "cult hit," and i think you have the makings of an interesting proposition...

Which brings me (finally) to the question portion of this letter: Jared, if we are in fact on a "cult show," and we are harnessing a "collective effervescence" akin to the worship of a "higher power," would it not be accurate to argue that we are actually cult leaders? And if we are cult leaders, would it not be reasonable to conclude that we should (while interest rates are low) invest in a sprawling, fortified compound that features underground bunkers, throngs of devotees wearing earth-toned linens, and hillsides peppered with dwellings configured to maximize polyamorous sexual encounters?

Let me know your thoughts.

You pal,

to which Jared replied:

My dearest Misha,

I must admit, that was quite an astute, dashing encapsulation of our current mortal coil.

I feel obliged to thank you for sticking to your initial forewarning of a "quick question". Dare I say it, I've heretofore never been met with such brevity when dealing with pertinent matters.

I shall initiate my humble response by, first, thanking Tanya Cook for her observations. It is an honor to meet a fellow Durkheim-ophile (though, alas, only across the inter-webs).

That having been said, I would be remiss to not acknowledge the earliest of the sociological vanguards. Namely, the very subjects that prescribed their lives and limbs to the teachings of Jesus Christ, Allah, Buddha, Confucius, et al. Durkheim was CERTAINLY notable in his observation of religion and its subsequent effect on the social experience, but I contend that the phenomenon existed LONG before it was given a name. The souls that first experienced said "collective effervescence" were, arguably, as important to the subject at hand as the man who gave it a name.
After all, did "oxygen" exist ONLY after being labeled? Was "America" just a dream before Amerigo Vespucci was honored by the attachment of his moniker to the glorious plot of land in the Western Hemisphere?

There can be no seller without a buyer. They are part and parcel of the same experience. (My dear Bard might even suggest, "A rose by any other name...")

But I digress.

Whilst in the throes of leaden contemplation, it occurred to me that you, too, considered yourself to be part of the construction and completion of the vehicle with which I (and Jensen Ackles, obv.) inspire the thoughts and feelings by which the masses revel in the aforementioned effervescence.

That's cute.

Seldom does one of my storied followers count themselves as a cog in this rarified wheel.

So, it is with pride (and a touch of amusement), that I assure you that such a fortified complex does already exist; in the minds of the blessed few who are endowed with a child's imagination, in the hearts of the scorned lover who is certain of a brighter day on the horizon, and in the souls of the dreamers who, amongst a collective conscience, inspire us all.

In conclusion....

Yeah dude. I'll call my banker. I'm pretty sure I can get a 7 year adjustable between 3% and 5%. If we got enough land, we could ride dirt bikes and stuff. I bet we could even set some stuff on fire and try to see who could skip rocks the best.

That would be pretty sweet.

Call me tomorrow.

to which Misha responded:

Sorry, man, when I didn't hear back from you, I assumed you weren't interested, and now I'm in escrow on this place with Daniel Radcliffe. Those rates sound great, though. I'd love to chat with your mortgage broker. Text me his 411!

Well that was interesting. Will take a while and a rewatch or two to digest, I think.

All the love, all the feels!!!! Season 11 is so fantastic with each new ep as good as the last. Jared and Jensen are just knocking it out of the park and I'm loving the returning characters we've had so far and so looking forward to who we may still get in the 2nd half of the season. Also loving the season arc and big bad, Amara, Sam & Dean's individual plotlines and all the MOTWS. Still having hot flushes every time I watch 11x08 which is daily!!

Have no idea what 11x10 is going to involve but can't wait to find out!!! Jan 20 seems so very very far away. This midseason hellatus is going to be a long and cruel one, me thinks!!

Behind here be spoilers )

Just done my Seb Roche photo op. Very quick but got a hug. Next up is Tahmoh photo and another hug!!!!

20 mins later:

Tahmoh is so gorgeous. His panel was fantastic. 1st question was a guy asking if he could propose to his girlfriend. Tahmoh got them both on stage and Tony got down on one knee and proposed. And of course she said yes. Tahmoh was so touched by it and them. He called Tony a romantic stud.

He spoke about his roles on BSG, DollHouse, working with Mark Sheppard, having to copy what Jared did for Gadreel with only 5 minutes notice, a fair bit about meditation and how it's really helped him in all aspects of his life.

Can't wait to see my photo op with him later today. If it's even half as good as my one with Gil yesterday, then I'll be a very happy lady.

Seb's panel was a mess IMO. The F word in almost every sentence. I'm not easily offended but there were kids (7yo and young teens, I think) there but I equally blame the mother/s for taking her/them in there. There are warnings both on the site when buying tickets and on the schedule about the "adult nature and content of some panels, but especially Seb's which is more X-rated than R. So there is fair warning not to take minors to it.

He answered 2 questions I think right at the end. And spoke for a few minutes about equality and inclusion for everyone, transgender, gays, the poor, etc which he was very sincere (almost serious) about and much more to my liking.

Don't think I would sit through another 1 of his panels though. But everyone else seemed to really enjoy it and his very vulgar sense of humour. Not my style at all.

My photo op with him was over super-quick but got a hug and managed to say a quick hi and nice to meet you. Will be getting all my photo ops signed by the actor in them if they are printed in time.

Not getting photos this time with Mark S, Misha or Osric as I want to get as many different cast photos as I can afford. Am getting Mark and Misha's autos as they are included with my gold ticket. Am giving Misha some gifts from a friend back home and will be giving her the autographed pic of him as I already have his signature and she is such a massive Misha/Cas fan.

Am doing same for my Misha auto next week for another friend back home who is also a huge fan of his.

Karaoke last night (fri) was fantastic. Being in the room when everyone was singing Eye Of The Tiger and then Carry On Wayward Son was rather emotional and beautiful. You could just feel the love and affection from fans to the cast but also from the cast back to the fans. It was simply amazing. Can't wait to do it again next Friday at PasCon. it's hosted by Matt, Richard & Rob and Gil and Osric were also there. My God, can Gil sing!!!!! He sang a tiny bit during his panel but to hear him belt out a full song and one of my favourites, Bohemian Rhapsody was something I won't ever forget. Got some okay video. just hope the sound is ok cause I want to listen to him again.

Think that's about all for now. Have about 30 mins before the costume contest which I want to check out, then the R2M panel which I'm looking forward to. Have autos tonight with Mark S, Misha, Seb and Tahmoh.

Also want to try to catch some of Jared's FB Q&A in about an hour. It's great being in the same timezone as Jared (well almost, he's on LA/Vancouver time which is an hour behind mountain time here in Denver, but close enough.) Tomorrow I will actually be in the same timezone, city, building, fuckin' room as J2!!!! Hope people ask reasonably intelligent questions. And of course I've been loving his little live vids he's been doing for the latest AKF shirt. Love the design and will definitely be adding a t-shirt or hoodie or both maybe to my collection.

That was so beyond words I have no words, just feelings, lots and lots of feelings.

Beyond amazing!!!

I think I may have just watched my new all-time favourite ep of my beloved show. It's definitely in my top 3 along with Mystery Spot and When The Levee Breaks.

Bravo to all involved but especially Jared, Jensen, Misha and Mark. Well done, boys. Bloody well done.

The few times I wasn't crying, I still had tears running down my cheeks--- tears of laughter.

Day 10- Favourite Misha character: It's a tie between season 4 & 5 BAMF!Cas who wouldn't take any of Dean's shit:

Well... bang-up job so far. Stellar work with the witnesses. That's nice.

We tried. And there are other battles, other seals. Some we'll win, some we'll lose. This one we lost. Our numbers are not unlimited. Six of my brothers died in the field this week. You think the armies of Heaven should just follow you around? There's a bigger picture here. You should show me some respect. I dragged you out of Hell. I can throw you back in.
4x02 Are You There, God? It's Me, Dean Winchester

With God's help, we can win.

It's a pipe dream, Cas.

CASTIEL advances on DEAN.

I killed two angels this week. My brothers. I'm hunted. I rebelled. And I did it, all of it, for you, and you failed. You and your brother destroyed the world—

SAM looks down.

—and I lost everything, for nothing. So keep your opinions to yourself.
5x02 Good God, Y'all

and Future!Cas from 5x04 The End. The drugs and the orgies and the scruff but most of all because of this line:

2014!CASTIEL laughs. 2014!DEAN looks at him.

What? I like past you

Saw this tweet from @clarissa373 and my heart broke more than a little. Not because of the article which I haven't read as I don't want to be spoiled but from the (over) reaction it's apparently garnered from some corners of our wide-ranging, diverse and amazingly passionate fandom.

I know there have always been and will always be fights and flame-wars between different parts of fandom (Samgirls vs Deangirls, Wincester's vs Destiel) but it seems to be getting worse and more over the top. This is one more reason I try to stay as spoiler free as possible. So I can avoid all the fan-wanking and fights that seem to come with even the most vague spoilers.

Blanket statement re: Castiel & Dean - if, perchance, you've read my recent Misha spoiler article (http://www.tvovermind.com/supernatural/supernatural-spoilers-misha-collins-reveals-castiel-fate/#comment-356401) please do not jump to conclusions about Castiel and Dean fighting or not speaking or whatever other assumption you might make just because I happened to write that Castiel and Sam might spend a little time together.

First, the two of them have had a rocky relationship, so there's hardly anything wrong with spending some time together. Second, Misha and Jared really wanted an opportunity to riff on each other in good fun. Third, Misha spoke about Sam because we happened to ask him something akin to "if Cas is jealous of Benny [which we know since it's previously been published], then might he spend any time with Sam?" It's a perfectly innocent question born out of an established dislike between characters (Castiel and Benny). Misha specifically said they had only just started to explore any dynamic between Sam and Castiel. That HARDLY means they're going to run off into the sunset together and forget all about Dean, Amelia and/or the dog.

There's no adverse Dean & Castiel conclusions to be made here. And it hardly means that Dean is going to be written off the show or SPN will become the Castiel/Sam variety hour (although that might actually be amusing). What happens with them or any other friendships is up to everyone - including me - to see.

So, it seems to me from what Clarissa has written here and reading some of the comments, that the Dean/Cas fans are upset, (jealous even) at the thought of Sam, (one of the 2 lead characters) having 1 or possibly more scenes alone with another major character that has been on the show for 4 seasons and who played such a significant part in Sam's storyline. That it will suddenly turn into the Sam/Cas show with Dean on the sidelines or even (gasp) written out of show!!!!

Funny thing is, I seem to recall all of these same fears coming from Sam-fans when Cas was introduced in season 4. The more things change, the more they stay the same, huh? And now, with Benny as Dean's new BFF & substitute brother, some Cas and Sam fans are feeling left out and having to commiserate each other.

I, for one, am really looking forward to seeing some more in-depth interaction between Sam and Cas. I even still have a tiny bit of hope that it may one day be revealed to either Sam or Dean or both that it was Cas who let Sam out of the panic room in 4:21, thus enabling Sam to kill Lillith and break the final seal.

To end on a lighter note, I got a chuckle out of reason #2: Second, Misha and Jared really wanted an opportunity to riff on each other in good fun.--- I just hope Jared will go easy on Misha and let him do his coverage without too much interference, but I'm not holding my breath that Jared will behave. Am hoping for some gag-reel goodies from those scenes.

vyperdd: (smile)
I just saw Misha in the lobby of my hotel!!! He was standing to one side by himself using his cell/mobile. Tweeting perhaps?

I'll admit I did a double take, but only because I didn't expect to see him, NOT because I didn't recognise him.  He's looking great but smaller than I had imagined he would be in RL.

Not much other news from Sydneytown yet. Weather has been better that I expected. Rain yesterday but today has been fine and pretty chilly.

About to head out to meet up with some other fans before the con tomorrow. Should be a blast. 2 dozens SPN fans in a small cafe.... what a way to spend the afternoon.
