Basically parked myself in the stage 1 panel room from 10am-2pm. With the Platinum ticket, I got a great seat near the front and as they didn't clear the room between panels (as a lot of cons do especially with the more high profile and popular guests) I was able to keep it the whole time I was there.

1st up was the Hercules panel with Kevin Sorbo and Michael Hurst. This was a really fun panel. The guys are obviously still very good friends and told lots of stories from the Hercules days. I asked Kevin about auditioning for Mulder in the X-Files and he said he got to the final couple. He then went for Superman in Lois and Clark but missed out to Dean Cain. Not long after that he was cast in Hercules.

Game of Thrones with Daniel Portman (Podrick) and Finn Jones (Ser Loras Tyrell) was next. Another great panel.

Billy Boyd, Pippin in LOTR, was really, really fun. Lots of energy and great engagement with the audience. Talked heaps about LOTR and Sir Ian McKellan and that for a lot of their scenes, he was on his knees to get the height difference and how he got really good at walking around on his knees. The highlight of the panel (and perhaps the whole con) was the last question. Someone asked what shows he was currently watching and he listed a couple, then someone yelled out another and he said he hadn't seen it and then people just started yelling out shows at random, most of the big current ones, like Game Of Thrones, Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, etc. It was really quick-fire back and forth with a lot of very fun boo-ing from the audience if he hadn't seen something. He hasn't seen SPN, that one I can remember. Then we started on movies, yes, LOTR and the Hobbit were called out first, then ones like Star Wars (Yes) and Twilight and Sound Of Music (no) and Titanic and even 50 Shades Of Grey. By the time we finished everyone was laughing and wanting more time. It was great. I wish there was vid on Youtube but they are very strict about no recording, so will have to wait til the DVD is sent to me as I can't wait to see it again.

For the Walking Dead we had Chad Coleman (Tyreese Williams) and Sonequa Martin-Green Sasha Williams. Again a lot of stories from the show. Sonequa talked about her scene where she was sleeping on a pile of Walkers and how that (for her character) was kind of peaceful. Chad mentioned the scene in the cabin where Rick and Carl are reunited with baby Judith and how it took a long time as the baby wouldn't settle, esp when Tyreese had to hand her to Rick. She had spent so much time with him that she thought he was her TV daddy.

Lunch was another chance to take a breather and quite by chance I caught up with Laura and Angie again in the Platinum lounge (not as fancy as it sounds, just a few tables and chairs in a small room, but it was comfy and away from the main vendor area so at least we could hear each other).

Autos went really smooth and quick, thanks to the Platinum ticket, didn't have to queue. Got my do pic signed. I thanked both Ben and Michael for finally coming to Perth and hoped they would be able to see some of the sights. Ben didn't think he would as they only had the Monday off before flying to next weekend's con in Adelaide. He had especially wanted to check out Margaret River, 4 hours drive south of Perth and famous for it's great surfing beaches as he is an avid surfer) So I told him, "well, I guess, you'll just have to come back then." Which he replied, He'd love too. And that he couldn't believe he'd lived in Australia for 5 years when filming Farscape and yet he had never been to Western Aust and had in fact seen very little of the country.

Then it was the SG1 panel with Ben, Michael and Cliff Simon (Ba'al) Ben made the best entrance!!!! Cliff and Michael came on stage but not Ben. A minute later we hear Ben's voice through a mic somewhere, turned around and Ben's about a dozen rows behind us in the audience, asking Michael who was the better kisser?? Claudia Black (Vala) or Ben Browder. On stage, both Michael and Cliff broke out laughing, doubled over and Michael wiping tears from his eyes. Michael, of course, answered, "Ben."

Ben then got all the Scapers in the room to raise their hands and yelled out "Can I get a Hell Yeah?? It's a line from the show and something Ben does in nearly every panel. The "Hell Yeah" we gave him was deafening and Ben was so proud that there were so many Scapers there. See, even though Farscape was filmed here, it wasn't really shown very much on local tv. The first few eps were aired when there was a little sporting event called the Sydney Olympics was on, so of course no-one was watching anything else. Ben sad he got stopped maybe once on the street by a person saying he looked a lot like that guy from the space show with the muppets.

Later in the panel, Michael made some remark about what was slang for puppets or muppets (I can't remember which) for which he got boo'd by all the scapers. We never refer to or think of Rygel and Pilot as anything other than living breathing cast members. Michael looked a bit shocked. Ben told him, you know the show was filmed here, and dude you do not fuck with the Aussies. God, I love him!!!!!!!

There was lots of talk about pranks and how when Daniel Jackson turned down a very seductive Vala (in red lacy underwear) Ben said he went to the writers and said Mitchell would do it no problem. He be happy to take one for the team.

Last panel was Robert Englund (Freddy Kruger) and Ken Kirzinger (Jason). I asked Robert about doing SPN (Dr Robert in season 6's Appointment in Samarra) and he, like Michael said how awesome Jared and Jensen were to work with and how the set was a really fun and friendly place. Said he would love to come back to the show and that's it plausible as he has a skill hunters can use (temporarily killing people) and that he knew John, so could provide insight into the boys childhood's and John as a young hunter just starting out.

And that was the end of my weekend and OzComicCon for another year. Caught up with another friend (Adam) I had spotted in various panels of the weekend but never got close enough to chat with, so we talked as we walked to the bus station. Whilst I love doing these cons solo and can do my own thing and see who I want to see, I also love having someone there to share things with and get all excited and squee'y (that's totally a word) with. It's why I'm looking forward to going to AHBL in Sydney with my mate, Kim. Will be awesome to be able to experience Jared and Jensen with someone who not only loves them as much as I do but understands the passion and lust 2 women older than the boys have for them and not be weirded out or repulsed by it.

It's why I love cons so much and will keep going even if there are no actors that I'm wanting to see. I love the atmosphere of being with thousands of other fans. There's no judgement, no harassment for looking different or being bigger. We may not all love the same shows or comics or anime but we are all fans OF something or someone in one massive family that is FANDOM. We all share a unique and very special love that people not in fandom either can't or don't want to understand. I'm normally very shy but put me in a mile long photo or auto queue or waiting for a panel to begin and within seconds I'm chatting to folks in front and behind me and pulling out my photo folder to show off ops. It's a lot like LJ only in person and on a much bigger scale and I love it and I feel like after searching for decades for somewhere to belong, I have finally found my home and my family.

So to all of you here on LJ and out there at past and future cons, thanks so very, very much from the bottom of my heart I want to hug each and very one of you and never let you go.

Michael Shanks was asked about working on SPN. Like so many others, he spoke highly of Jared and Jensen and how they made the set so welcoming and comfortable to work on. He told us about the fight scene near the end of the ep (5x19: 99 Problems) where Jared was throwing him into the wall of the set and how it shook when he hit it. Jared asked if he was okay for another take and Michael puts his arm up and hand out and says in a really wounded-sounding voice "No."

Ben spoke a lot about his 2 upcoming projects, directing Bad Kids Go 2 Hell and a video game that's due for release this year.

With regards to BKG2H, Ben spoke of how great his young cast was. They actually cast 18 year old actors to play 18 year old characters. Wow, what an amazing concept!! And how working on this film has really reignited his love for the business.

And the video game sounds amazing, even for a non-gamer like me. He spoke of being in a really tight spandex suit (which of course got lots of cheers and applause from the ladies!!!) covered with heaps of reflectors to track his movements. He says the tech they were using is beyond anything he's ever seen. And all this for a project he wasn't supposed to talk about.

Still no word about when we'll get more Farscape. Ben said he only found out about Peacekeeper Wars about 3 weeks before filming started.

Saturday lunch, met up with Laura and Angie and some other friends. Then it was off to photo ops with Ben and Michael. As usual these went really quickly but both guys were so super awesome and gorgeous. Got a duo pic as well, as I don't know if they'll do another con together that I can go to.

Also did a group photo with Ben and 3 of my friends. We basically met because of our love of Farscape and so this one was pretty special, esp for Sue as it was her first time seeing Ben so of course we made sure she got to stand next to him. It turned out really well and will be a lovely memento of our friendship over the last 10 years.

Went to Billie Piper's panel afterwards and she wasn't like I'd expected. Her answers were very short, quite often just a yes or no or only a few words. And she was very giggly. Whether that's just how she is or if it was jet-lag and the kids, I don't know.

They were screening an encore of the Walking Dead season 5 finale but as I'd already seen it and I was dead on my feet after 48 hours with no sleep, I headed home.

Just a quick post.

Ben Browder is as fucking gorgeous as ever!!!! And funny and adorable and gorgeous. He's well into post production with Bad Kids Go To Hell 2 and is really hyped about how good it is. He's also working on a video game but couldn't give any details other than it should be released some time this year.

Michael Shanks is still as amazing and wonderful as the first time I met him a few years ago. And I kinda like the beard, like a lot!!!!! Asked him about doing SPN and he said he originally read for Crowley but was called back for the role of Rob in 99 Problems. Said he enjoyed doing the show but was a little disappointed it was such a minor role.

Billy Boyd was very sweet and adorable who seemed to be enjoying his first trip to Perth. Told him some local tourist spots to check out. He wanted to know the best local surfing beaches.

Other guests (that I didn't get a chance to talk to 'cause I was pretty focussed on Ben and Michael) included Billie Piper, Robert Englund, Kevin Sorbo, Dominic Keating.

It was a really relaxed gathering with guests mingling with small groups of fans for a really decent amount of time and very, very low profile security (even for Billie).

And it was wonderful to meet Laura [livejournal.com profile] vinegar_dog and her pal Angie, awesome Scapers. We chatted for a long time after the guests had left and I can't wait to hang out with you gals over the weekend.

Tomorrow is going to be full on with lots of panels, photos and autos.

Best news first!!! I bought my VIP ticket to AHBL6 in Melbourne, so will be spending the Saturday as well in J2's company. Added bonus is more time with all the fan!girls and boys. Had to transfer money from a few different accounts to have enough but I was so worried about them selling out before I get paid next Wednesday that it was worth the hassle.

Been arranging meet-ups with friends and fellow SPNFamily from LJ, Twitter and FB. Will be sharing a hotel room with a wonderful lady I met at a Stargate/Farscape con back 2010 and have kept in touch via FB, text and the odd phone call. She sent me a beautiful pentagram pendant (which I wear everyday) and I can't wait to thank her in person.

Have so far resisted buying the Ben/Michael dinner ticket. Will check to see if any are still available after payday. If so, then I'm obviously meant to go, right??? :-)

Secondly!!!! Jared!!! Can he get anymore awesome??? I thought not but him joining FB and the daily spammage is the best thing ever!!! I've bought both a t-shirt and sweater and am hoping they arrive before late May so that I can wear them to the con.

I think being on FB really suits Jared. He's not limited to just 140 characters, so he can really take the time and space to detail his thoughts and feelings. Plus the vids have all been amazing. I especially love the one where he is playing *hookey* on set and runs into Ryan Curtis... busted!!!!

I get the biggest, probably very goofy grin on my face every time I get a notification on my phone that he has posted a new pic or vid or link. And it only gets bigger when I check them out.

This one is my favourite so far. Warning for spoilers for 10x19

Thirdly!!!! Loved this week's ep of The Blacklist

spoilers for 2x14 )

Fourthly!!!! Making good progress on my BB but will be taking a brief hiatus this week to do [livejournal.com profile] spnspringfling. Prompts should be emailed out in the next couple of days and am really looking forward to seeing what I've been assigned. Last year I struggled to keep to the max 2500 words so am hoping the ideas come thick and fast this time 'round.

Bought my VIP ticket to AHBL6 in Sydney, paid for my flights. Still have to purchase my Melbourne con ticket, VIP as well.

Now OzComicCon has added Ben Browder to a Sat night dinner along with Michael Shanks and I really, really, really want to go but I don't really have the money (well I do, but I've put it aside for my other VIP ticket for J2). Am thinking I can wait until Wed when I get paid and buy it then and pray they don't sell out earlier. Or I can get it now and wait til payday to get the VIP (and pray that THEY don't sell out).

Oh where is that 1st division Lotto win when I really need it????

Just when I didn't think I could get any more excited about my con adventures next year , I find out that Ben Browder and Michael Shanks, 2 of my favourite actors (3rd and 4th after Jared and Jensen)  are coming to my hometown next April for OzComicCon and I just know I'm going to be spending the big bucks to have the best weekend with them, which will hopefully also include dinner with 1 or both of them.

I've had the pleasure of meeting both guys at various cons before, Ben 3 times (in LA, Sydney and Melbourne) and Michael once in Melbourne, but I'm still really excited to be getting the chance to see them again. More photos and autos and panels and I can't wait!!!! And I know I'm just going to be as giddy and nervous as I was when meeting them for the very first time.

With Ben,  this con will be extra special as I'll be getting to share it and him with my best friends, a group of amazing gals who answered my desperate pleas when I first discovered Farscape and was in need of episodes to watch. All I wrote in an Aussie yahoogroup for Farscape was "I've seen an ep and I need more. Please help!!!!!" It wasn't on air in Oz at the time, I didn't have a dvd player so they copied VCR tapes for me and sent them to my local library (2 were librarians) for me to pick up. In the decade since, we've met up every few weeks for lunch or dinner, we've travelled to the other side of the country for fan meet-ups (the best of which was TaScape '04 when they were filming PeaceKeeper Wars in Sydney. We did a double-decker bus location-filming tour, had the crew madly shutting windows when we drove past the studio where they were filming and had an amazing BBQ on the beach where a lot of scenes were filmed that was attended by lots of the crew. Unfortunately the cast (Ben, Claudia, ect weren't there) but it was still a fantastic day. So many crew were amazed that we wanted their signatures and to have photos with them. These guys were production people and set dressers and special effects crew and costumers and other behind-the-scene folks who so rarely get the recognition for all the wonderful work they do. Without them, there would have been no Farscape (and the same goes for SPN as well)

Anyways, only 2 of this group has met Ben before, so it'll be amazing to see the others get to meet him as well. And I'm hoping that some other Scapers that we haven't seen in years will make the trip from interstate so we can have a great big Scaper family reunion.

So my poor, poor credit card is going to take more torture and I'll be living off toast and vegemite for years (maybe decades) to come as I pay it off but oh boy, it is certainly going to be worth every bloody cent.

So, meeting and hugging Jared

and Jensen
JensenJ2Panel02

and Ben
BenBrowder03

and Michael
MichaelShanks-01

all in one year and at 3 cons. I truly don't think I'm going to survive so much OMFG hotness and awesome and sexyness but dude, what a way to go!!!!

Never thought I would write a post like this about my all-time favourite show and current obsession. Hopefully it's a 1 time thing and that I'm back to joining in all the fandom-wide love and happy feels from next week

Have just bought tickets to the Hub productions Stargate con in Sydney on March 6.

The line-up is to die for, esp for little ol' Australia.

Ben Browder in his 1st ever DownUnder con and perhaps 1st time back in OZ since he filmed the FS mini- Peacekeeper Wars way back in Jan '04. Figures that I travel all the way to LA and spend thousands to see him at a Farscape con and 18 months later he comes to Australia.

Richard Dean Anderson is the other big name guest star and the icing on an already delicious cake. I've been a fan of RDA's since MacGyver and he was the reason I made sure to watch Stargate right from the start. Soon fell pretty heavily for Michael Shanks, but still adore RDA and can't wait to meet him.

I'm still overwhelmed by how many of my childhood/early teen heroes/icons/idols I've been able to meet in the last few years. The biggest thrill of all so far was meeting Dirk Benedict and Richard Hatch, Starbuck & Apollo from the original BSG. Dirk was my first tv crush and never thought in a million years that I'd ever get to meet and chat with him without even having to leave my home-town.

The Good:

My dvds of the 2005 and 2006 Farscape cons in Burbank arrived on Friday. Am still waiting for 2007 but it's on back order. As much as I wanted to, I couldn't sit down and watch them straight away as I was hosting a Nutrimetics (cosmetic/skin care) party that night. Finally watched them at almost midnight after way too many glasses of wine. And it was well worth the wait to see Ben Browder do his 2006 Q&A in a bunny suit. I kid you not!

Ben in the Bunny suit he wore in the Farscape episode Bad Timing

That man has no shame, which is probably one of the reasons I adore him so much both as an actor and an ordinary guy.

Will have to watch it again I can't remember a lot of the question and Ben's answers as I was too busy rolling around on my bed giggling and trying not to spill my wine. But the bits I can remember were an absolute blast.

The bad:

Had my passport photos done yesterday and they're nearly as bad as my driver's licence photo. Why do these things always look like mug shots and bad ones at that??

Oh, well at least it's over and done with. Can put my passport application in now and cross another thing off my very, very long must-do list.

Have set this up so I'll have somewhere to post my pics from the Armageddon con in Melbourne & the Farscape con in Burbank in November '08. Figure I might as well add the odd thought along the way to keep people up to date with all the trials, tribulations and revelations of planning my very first overseas trip, from herein known as the good, the bad, and the downright ugly. Hopefully, there will be plenty of the first, only a few of the second and none of the third but I know I ain't that lucky.

A little bit of history:

Back in late February '08, I got the crazy idea that I could afford to take 2 weeks off work, save all my cents and dollars and fly to Los Angeles for a 3 day Farscape convention known either as Burbank or (my fav) the 2nd Frelling Farewell. Get to meet the cast, catch up with some friends from the East coast of Oz and the US I first met at TaScape '04 and Ozscape '05 and spend 3 wild days and nights hanging out with a heap of 'scapers from all over the world.

The idea was all Mark's fault. He's also going to Burbank and I don't know whether to kiss him or kill him when I see him in LA. Will probably do both. <g> He issued an invite to all Aussie scapers to join a pilgrimage to LA and invade the Burbank Farscape con, saying the Perthies (of which I'm one) had gotten ourselves all organised. By the time I found out that in fact only 2 other Perthies were making the trip, I was too hyped up to even consider not going and so here I am on the verge of spending an obscene amount of money.

And just when I thought it couldn't get any better, I got a Google alert that Michael Shanks is appearing at Armaggedon '08 in Melbourne on Nov 1 & 2, the same weekend I'm flying to LA, so what was originally a few hours stopover on Sunday in Melbourne turns into a Fri night red-eye from Perth, a 2 day con experience and more pain for my already abused credit card.

The good
:
Booked my Perth to Melbourne red-eye flight last night as I was worried that the cheap early morning seats would sell out and I would arrive too late Sat morning in Melbourne. I'll get into Melbourne at 5am. Figure I'll hit the Curves gym for a 45 minute workout on the way to my hotel as it's likely to be my only bit of spare time for the following 2 weeks.

Visited the travel agent tonight and got a really good price on the Melbourne-LA-Perth legs, so will be booking them on Saturday morning. Prices are set to rise come Monday, so looks like I got in just in time to save a few hundred bucks, which is always a good thing, especially considering how much I've already spent on the Burbank con tickets so far. Let's see: 1 gold ticket package (which includes a Friday night cabaret and Saturday evening dessert party with some of the cast), Sat afternoon cocktails with Claudia Black, Sunday morning breakfast with Ben Browder, Autographs and photo ops with Ben and Claudia

And what I'm planning on spending to see Michael Shanks and David Hewlett at Armaggedon in Melbourne Nov 1 & 2: 2 day pass, autos and photos with Michael and David, dinner with Michael.

The bad:
Only just realised tonight that 1 & 2 November is the weekend before the Melbourne Cup ( a horse race for those not in the know, also known as the race that stops a nation) and therefore hotel prices skyrocket and become rarer than hen's teeth, which means I'll have to book somewhere sooner rather than later.
